Dissenting Voices Post

I found a pro-abortion article that is perfect for this assignment. Abortion is a strong issue that I have a lot of passion about. It is the one topic I will never change my viewpoint on due to the extensive study I did last year in my “marriage and family from a biblical standpoint” course. The article I read said it is simply the woman’s choice whether to terminate her pregnancy or not because it is her body and she is the only person who is ultimately affected by this. That statement alone is wrong. She is not the only person affected because if she chooses to get the abortion, she has killed the fetus which would have potentially grown into a human being. So no, she is not the only person that is affected, the dead baby is affected because it was not given a chance at life. It also tries to make the point that people are always thinking about what the fetus is to become, not what it is under three months after conception. The article tries to inform readers that an embryo, no older than three months, is cells still apart of the mother and more “primitive” than a frog or a fish. This statement is ridiculous in my mind because as soon as a baby is conceived all it needs is to remain in the womb of the mother until it is carried to term (nine months) and as long as the mother eats and stays nourished the fetus will continue to grow into a human being. So At any point of terminating the fetus, should be considered murder. Granted, the mass of cells may not look like an infant, but it still going to be an infant and in the world in less than a year! It is absolutely absurd to assume it is not a human being.
This quote from the article is perhaps the most disturbing, “If anti-abortionists object that an embryo has the genetic equipment of a human being, remember: so does every cell in the human body.” What is this quote even implying? If you ask me it is contradicting itself by saying an embryo may have the genetic equipment of a person, but so does every cell in the human body. Of course human beings have genetic equipment, so why wouldn’t an embryo contain the same components? Embryos obviously have genetics hence the reason why they have the potential to become humans! They are people, in the earliest form. It is so sad that people are brainwashed into thinking otherwise. This article found ways to beat around the real issues that are being dealt with today. It presented pro-abortion facts and made the real facts seem as if it was biased information for anti-abortionists. Hopefully more research and scientific studies will be conducted on the issue and begin to prove that abortion is indeed an act of murder, regardless of whether the mother was raped or just does not want to continue with the pregnancy for personal reasons.

  1. Its good to see that there are others in the world outside my little relm that also believe that murder is in fact MURDER! Even in the situation that a woman is raped, why have an abortion? I unerstand that you may not want to live with the child do to the unfortunate circumstance you are dealing with, but why kill an innocent child because of someone elses crime? I see it as simply moraly wrong and unjust! Every state should realize the "murder" of abortion and make it illegal in all circumstances!
